Questions
What callers ask Garland first
Short answers here. Your own case gets a longer one at the free consult.
What does the first consult cost?
Nothing. It's about 30 minutes, at any office or by phone. You'll leave knowing what you're charged with and what happens next.
How is the fee set?
Most cases have a flat fee for each stage, written into an agreement before work starts. Costs like filing fees, transcripts or an investigator are listed separately.
Can I pay over time?
Often, yes. A payment schedule is written into the same agreement as the fee.
Should I talk to the police about my case?
Not without a lawyer. You can say politely that you won't answer questions until you've spoken to one.
What should I bring to the first meeting?
Anything with your case on it: the ticket, warrant, bond papers, a court notice or a petition. A list of witnesses helps too.
Will you promise me a result?
No honest lawyer can. Garland tells you what the evidence looks like, what the choices are and what each could lead to.
What if my charge isn't one you take?
He'll tell you on the first call and give you the name of a lawyer who handles it.
Which office should I use?
Whichever is easiest for you. Saturdays are in Summerville and evenings in North Charleston.
